Recently, Santa Fe Photographic Workshops joined forces with DJI to host their inaugural aerial photography workshop, marking a significant step forward in the education of aspiring photographers. Director of Education, Romeo Durscher, reflected on the experience, noting, “The first workshop was a great learning experience for all of us. This is such a new technology, and Santa Fe Photographic Workshops is really leading the way in providing workshops on new technologies.”
Participants were treated to an immersive educational experience that encompassed a variety of topics, from hands-on drone flying experiences to understanding the maintenance of aerial equipment, all while staying updated on current regulations governing drone use. Durscher elaborated that after one-on-one flying instruction sessions, the workshop delved deeper into aerial photography, taking advantage of the breathtaking New Mexico wilderness to demonstrate the artistic possibilities with flying cameras. “The workshop was a great way for beginners to get a feel for the technology and experiment with the aerial camera and its capabilities,” he added.

The enthusiastic response to this workshop has prompted organizers to prepare a series of future offerings. The next event is slated for October 26-30, followed by more sessions in March 2016. The upcoming October workshop caters to beginner drone pilots and photographers—those keen on exploring the exciting prospects of aerial photography but uncertain of where to begin. With no prior experience necessary, this comprehensive five-day workshop offers foundational skills to help participants confidently take to the skies.
An additional weekend workshop is set for March 12-13, which will be closely followed by a full week of learning from March 13-18. Both workshops will prioritize safe flying techniques, with the week-long session expanding further into the nuances of aerial photography.
