Denver, CO, February 16, 2022: Last week, Denver played host to Geo Week 2022, which ran from February 6 to 8 at the Colorado Convention Center. This event attracted nearly 1,900 geospatial and built world professionals, marking a triumphant return to in-person gatherings after a long hiatus. Geo Week marked the convergence of multiple previous stand-alone events, including AEC Next Technology Expo & Conference, the International Lidar Mapping Forum, and SPAR 3D Expo & Conference, alongside collaborative initiatives such as the ASPRS Annual Conference.

The exhibit hall was a major highlight, boasting a sold-out space with over 140 exhibitors eager to showcase the latest advancements in geospatial technologies. Collectively, attendees hailed from 49 states and 48 countries, emphasizing Geo Week’s stature as a leading event in merging advanced airborne and terrestrial technologies with commercial 3D applications.

Lee Corkhill, Group Director at Diversified Communications—organizers of the event—enthused about the turnout. "After so much time apart, it was clear that the industry was ready to connect again in person. By uniting multiple events under one roof, we exceeded every expectation this year, and we’re excited to continue supporting our community and advancing the geospatial sector."

Engaging Programming and Keynote Speakers

Kicking off on Sunday, February 6, Geo Week featured Product Previews, followed by an extensive conference agenda spanning two and a half days. It showcased over 125 speakers, including keynote addresses from notable figures at Draper, Microsoft, the USGS, Planet, EndeavorXR, NVIDIA, and NASA. For those unable to attend, these keynotes are available for online viewing.

A palpable atmosphere of excitement permeated the exhibit hall as attendees explored best-in-class solutions from industry leaders. Numerous new products were on display, reinforcing Geo Week’s reputation as a hub for innovation in the geospatial landscape.

Networking Opportunities and Awards

Networking opportunities abounded, with events such as the Welcome Happy Hour sponsored by Trimble and the sold-out Elevated Networking Reception, backed by MAPPS and Sanborn Map Company. Attendees expressed palpable relief and excitement at reconnecting face-to-face after the pandemic-induced isolation.

Nathan Hopper, Project Manager/Lead Scientist at Woolpert, noted, "It’s been a great turnout. I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to see people and sit down with them. That’s what we missed during the pandemic." Moreover, Jason Stoker, a Physical Scientist at USGS, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the joy of re-establishing personal connections within the industry.

Celebrating Excellence

The Geo Week Awards Ceremony celebrated remarkable achievements within the geospatial community, in collaboration with LIDAR Magazine, LiDAR News, and ASPRS. The LIDAR Leaders Awards honored industry pioneers, including Emesent, Outsight, and the University of Oregon, along with a posthumous tribute to Martin Isenburg of Rapid Lasso. Additionally, Rami Tamimi, founder and chief geodetic engineer at GEOIC, received the Younger Geospatial Professional Award.

The event was supported by 148 organizations, including publications, industry associations, user groups, and non-profits. Corkhill expressed gratitude to these partners, remarking on their vital role in promoting and enhancing the event’s offerings.

The Future of Geo Week

Geo Week positions itself as an essential gathering for geospatial and built environment professionals, further solidified by the theme of technological collaboration highlighted throughout the conference. Amy Peck, Founder and CEO of EndeavorVR, shared insights on the importance of smartly integrating technology with workforce management.

With plans for the next Geo Week set for February 13-15, 2023, in Denver, anticipation is already building for another opportunity to connect, innovate, and celebrate within this dynamic industry. For more information on Geo Week, visit www.geo-week.com.
