DJI’s Drones Lead the Way in FAA Remote ID Compliance

In a significant advancement for drone technology and safety, DJI has proudly announced that it is the first manufacturer to receive full approval from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its compliance with the FAA’s Remote Identification (Remote ID) mandate. On September 15, 2022, the FAA confirmed the Declarations of Compliance for seven of DJI’s top drone models. Among these is the DJI Mini 3 Pro, recognized as America’s “RID000000001.” This pioneering action positions DJI as a leader in ensuring responsible drone operation, allowing users to fly with confidence, knowing they can comply with FAA regulations.
A Suite of Approved Models
The FAA’s initial approvals, listed on the FAA website, encompass DJI’s latest and most sought-after platforms: Mini 3 Pro, Avata, Air 2S, Mavic 3, Mavic 3 Cine, M30, and M30T. For customers purchasing newly manufactured versions of these drones, compliance with Remote ID regulations will be automatic, eliminating the need for any additional action. Existing owners, however, will soon be able to ensure compliance by simply downloading a free firmware update, scheduled for release shortly.
DJI is actively pursuing FAA approval for an expanded range of drone models, with results to be updated on the FAA website as they come through. Notably, drones equipped with Remote ID capability will bear the designation “ASTM F3411-22a-RID-B” on their regulatory labels, providing clarity to consumers.
Upcoming Compliance Deadlines
The FAA has established September 16, 2022, as the compliance deadline for newly manufactured drones requiring FAA registration, although enforcement may be postponed until December 16, 2022. For current DJI drone owners, as the regulations stipulate, there is no immediate requirement to act. The full compliance date for existing models is set for September 16, 2023. Leading up to this deadline, DJI plans to release necessary firmware updates, ensuring that many modern drones will meet the conditions without stress. Older models will also retain compliance possibilities through supplementary add-on modules. Additional details are expected to emerge in the upcoming months.
