SkyPixel And DJI Unveil Stellar Aerial Videos From Around the Globe

Showcasing Stunning Perspectives of Volcanoes, Majestic Mountains, and Urban Landscapes

In an exhilarating display of creativity and innovation, SkyPixel, in collaboration with DJI, has announced the winners of the esteemed 2017 SkyPixel Video Contest. This exciting event, which has gained popularity among aerial photographers and videographers worldwide, attracted nearly 3,000 submissions from participants spanning over 100 countries, divided across three mesmerizing categories: Nature, City, and Sport.

Grand Award Winner Shines Bright

The highly coveted Grand Prize was awarded to xiaoxiao for the breathtaking video titled ‘EPIC OF TANNA‘, which transports viewers to the lush landscapes of Tanna, an island located in Vanuatu in the South Pacific. Through vivid visuals, xiaoxiao captures the awe-inspiring beauty of a volcano and the island’s stunning vistas. Alongside the title, the Grand Prize recipient will receive an impressive array of prizes, including a DJI Inspire 2 Premium Combo, Nikon D750 Body with a 24-70mm VR 2.8 Lens, a Suunto Spartan Ultra Copper Special Edition Watch, and more.

Crowning Category Winners

Winners from each category were also honored, showcasing exceptional talent:

• Nature Category: First Prize was awarded to Vadim Sherbakov for ‘Icarus‘, which beautifully portrays the dramatic cliffs of the Isle of Skye and the grandeur of the Dolomites in Italy.
• City Category: Luke Bell’s production ‘The City of Cape Town‘ takes spectators on a visually captivating journey through the vibrant cityscapes of Cape Town, exploring its beaches and mountains.
• Sport Category: Marin Kafedjiiski earned the top spot with his exhilarating video ‘MMP3 – 2D RUN‘, showcasing a parkour artist’s daring leaps across rooftops, bridges, and rivers in unconventional locations.

People’s Choice Awards Recognize Top Favorites

In addition to the judges’ selection, the contest also honored the ten most-liked videos with the People’s Choice Award, accompanied by gifts from DJI, LaCie, Suunto, and Oakley. This feature reflects the contest’s focus not only on expert selections but also on the community’s favorite picks.

Expert Judging Panel

The winning entries were evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges that included professional photographers, filmmakers, and creative directors, such as Aerial Director of Photography Phil Pastuhov, renowned for his work in blockbuster films like The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Godzilla, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Other notable judges included Filipe DeAndrade, a ten-time Emmy-winning Director of Photography, and Josh Raab, Multimedia Editor at TIME and an educator at the International Center of Photography.
